Utah ski resorts announce opening dates for season

Editor's Note: All openings subject to weather conditions.THE GREAT OUTDOORS — Many parts of Utah are seeing snow this week, just in time for the upcoming ski season.

Utah boasts "The Greatest Snow on Earth" and is home to 14 ski resorts, 11 of which are within an hour of the Salt Lake City airport. With the union of Park City and Canyons resorts, Utah is now also home to the largest ski resort in the United States: Park City Mountain Resort.

Here are a list of opening dates and deals for Utah's ski resorts:

Alta Ski Area

Alta plans to open for the season Friday. As of Tuesday evening, there was a collective 42 inches of snowfall at the resort. Day passes for adults range from $50-$80.

Beaver Mountain Ski Area

The opening date for Beaver Mountain is still to be determined. The resort is offering student season passes for $325 from Monday until Nov. 24, when the price will increase to $360. The deal is available to students currently attending middle school, high school or college. An adult day pass is $48.

Brian Head Resort

Located near Cedar City, Brian Head Resort has the highest base elevation in Utah, according to its website. The resort is scheduled to open Friday. Adult day passes are $35 during the week and $54 for a weekend day pass.

Brighton Resort

Brighton currently has 22 inches of snow at its base and will open Wednesday. Lift tickets are be discounted opening day and will be available for $40. The resort is also offering a deal exclusively during November that includes two nights at the Brighton Lodge and two lift passes for $179.

Adult day passes are available for $79 during the 2015-2016 season.

Cherry Peak Ski Resort

The opening date for Cherry Peak is yet to be determined, but Utah's newest resort will officially open sometime during the 2015-2016 season, according to its website. Adult day passes are available for $49.

Deer Valley Resort

Deer Valley will open Saturday, Dec. 5. Adult day passes are $120 and group rates are available for groups of 20 or more. The group deals must be reserved at least seven days in advance and are not available during holiday periods. Group rate reservations can be made by calling the Deer Valley Resort Group Sales Office at 435-645-6507.

Eagle Point

Eagle Point currently has 31 inches of snow and is scheduled to open Saturday, Dec. 19. Discounted season passes can be purchased until Dec. 1, with passes for adults ages 25-61 available at $374 and student passes available for $199. Adult day passes are $35.

Nordic Valley Ski Resort

The opening date for Nordic Valley is yet to be determined, due to a lack of snow. Adult day passes will run from $25 to $35. Check out the resort's powder conditions by viewing its webcam.

Park City Mountain Resort

The new, record-sized resort will open Saturday. The resort has undergone $50 million in improvements and now offers 7,300 skiable acres. Locals can purchase discounted "Epic Local Passes" between now and Sunday for $619, which will give users access to Park City and several other resorts including Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin.

Powder Mountain Resort

Powder Mountain originally had a projected opening date of Wednesday, Nov. 25. However, the opening will be delayed due to a lack of snow, according to Powder Mountain Resort marketing coordinator Jean-Pierre Goulet. The resort will open when there is an adequate amount of snow.

The resort currently has 60 percent off discounted day passes for $30 and night passes for $10.

Snowbasin Resort

As of Tuesday evening, Snowbasin had a total 14 inches of snow and will open Wednesday, Nov. 25. Early season lift ticket rates are available starting at $39 for youth and $75 for adults.

Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort

Snowbird is scheduled to open Friday with a collective total of 42 inches of snow, as of Tuesday evening. The resort is currently offering a deal of lodging and lift tickets for $99 a night. The offer is valid Wednesday until Dec. 23 and can be booked by calling the resort at 1-800-232-9542.

Solitude Mountain Resort

Solitude will open Saturday and now offers a new high-speed, detachable quad chairlift in place of the Summit double chairlift. Adult day passes are available for $79.

Sundance Resort

Sundance is scheduled to open Friday, Dec. 4. The resort offers discounted rooms for locals at its private mountain cottages throughout the ski season. Rooms start at $199 on weekdays and $239 on weekends for Utah residents.
