FISHLAKE NATIONAL FOREST — Rain slowed the growth of the Solitude Fire, and U.S. Forest Service officials were able to obtain accurate aerial mapping of the acreage.
Sunday, officials reported the acreage at 1,104 acres, up from 378 the day before. Monday, however, that number was revised to 2,162 acres. About .4 of an of rain kept the growth minimal Monday morning, but dry weather patterns are predicted for Wednesday. Fire officials continue to use the fire as a way to clean up the habitat and dead fuels of the Pahvant Range near Richfield.
Firefighters will continue treating vegetation along roads and Strawberry Ridge Tuesday. The fire is 25 percent contained.
Smoke was visible from Sevier and Millard counties and drifting smoke was visible in surrounding areas, U.S. Forest Service hydrologist Adam Solt. Residents may notice a higher concentration of smoke in the mornings, the Forest Service said.
No evacuations or closures are currently in place, though the Forest Service said if fire conditions mandate it, FR 96 could temporarily close along the top of the mountain from White Pine Peak Junction to the Chalk Creek Road Junction.
