PAROWAN — One person was killed on I-15 after either driving distracted or falling asleep at the wheel Tuesday morning, police said.

A 2005 GMC Envoy rolled multiple times after overcorrecting twice on northbound I-15 near Parowan around 7:30 a.m., the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

The driver, whose name, age and gender weren't immediately released, was dead when troopers arrived at the scene. A passenger, who was also not identified, was flown by helicopter to a St. George Hospital after their right leg became trapped under a door.

"Marks at the scene are consistent with a driver who had fallen asleep or been distracted and drove off the left side of the roadway," UHP said in a statement.

The driver reportedly over-corrected to the right and then to the left before the vehicle rolled. The Envoy's speed may have also played a factor in the crash, according to police.
