METROPOLIS — The swings were my playground drug of choice as a kid. It’s the closest virtually any kid can get to flying like Superman.

I loved the wind whipping across my face and through my hair as I swung higher and higher with the goal of touching the sky. My best scar (and badge of honor) is from an ill-advised leap from the swing that led to a chunk of flesh being torn from my knee. I even remember impassioned conversations with my elementary compadres about the realities and possible dangers of swinging all the way around the top bar of the swing set.

Perhaps all of that nostalgia and joy is why I loved this video so much from British freerunner, stuntman and gymnast Damien Walters.

In the video, Walters uses a Russian swing — which is often used in circus acts to help acrobats get massive air — to leap over his house in a single bound, not unlike Superman.

Trust me, in telling you what happens in the video, I did not spoil the glorious sight of the leap. Prepare to be amazed.

I would hope this goes without saying, but Walters is a trained professional, so please don’t try this at home.
