SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified the man found dead along the Jordan River Parkway Trail Monday afternoon.

But while investigators are calling the death of Anthony Paul Hernandez, 36, suspicious, they did not have many details to release Tuesday about what might have happened.

Hernandez's body was found near 800 N. Riverside Drive about 3 p.m. Monday by people walking along the trail. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot shortly before the body was discovered.

Hernandez was reportedly homeless.

Utah state court records show he had numerous charges, mostly misdemeanors, filed against him in the past year. Salt Lake police say they were also familiar with Hernandez, who was either a suspect or person of interest in several current investigations into violent incidents around the homeless shelter, 210 S. Rio Grande St.
