HEBER CITY — Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire Monday that destroyed a Heber City home and killed several animals in an attached garage.

Firefighters were called about 3:45 p.m. to a home near 400 East on Little Sweden Road and found it engulfed in flames, Wasatch County Fire Lt. Janet Carson said. Crews put out the fire, which apparently started in the garage of the single-story house, the lieutenant said.

The homeowners were not hurt and there were no firefighter injuries, Carson said. Firefighters found the family's dog inside the house and saved it, she said, but several turkeys and chickens were found dead in the garage.

The damage is estimated at $150,000 and the house is expected to be a total loss, Carson said.
