SALT LAKE CITY — Going on an adventure with your favorite four-legged buddy is always a great time. However, sometimes we don’t remember the little things when we’re having all that fun.
Whether it’s during the car camping trips or the multi-day journey, below is a list of the things you might need to make your trek with your dog a little easier.
Collapsible water bowl
When your dog is having the time of their life running around in the woods, it’s important to have water on hand in order to help keep your pup hydrated. Collapsible water bowls make it easy and convenient for carrying during the longer hikes.
There are many options, including the Quencher from Ruffwear that offers a collapsible waterproof fabric. Another option is the Sea to Summit X-Bowl, made with silicone and attached to a high cut-resistant, high temperature-resistant nylon base. It can be pushed down into the base, making it easy to pack.
Dog boots
If you’re worried about protecting your dog’s feet on rougher terrain, investing in a pair of dog boots might be worth it. The dog boots to look for are the ones made with rubber soles that provide traction and breathability. There are also different types of boots, depending on the environment.
Hurtta offers dog boots with 3M reflectors and non-slip rubber soles. From winter boots that provide warmth and traction on snow or regular booties for summer explorations, there are many options for protecting your dog’s feet.

Seat covers
During your outdoor adventures, your dog will often get dirty. An easy solution to a possibly messy situation is a good seat cover. This investment provides your car with protection, not only for your dirty dogs, but also any other adventurer you may have with you.
Most seat covers available are waterproof and are easy to attach in the back of your car.
Dog pack
A dog pack is great if you’re worried about carrying the extra weight of your dog's supplies during your hike. Dog packs allow dogs to carry their gear, such as food, a leash or a Nalgene bottle. When looking for a pack, find one that has multiple pockets and some reflective trim to make your dog visible.
There are also packs that include an elastic bungee for any added gear your dog might need. Ruffwear also offers a variety of packs with different sizes depending on the hike length. Mountainsmith offers packs with great adjustability and attachment points for leashes.
It’s not always necessary to have all the gear mentioned, but these recommendations are great for helping to protect your dog during the more rugged trails. With the expedition of long hikes, camping and other destinations, it’s safe to say a protected dog makes a happy one.
