TAYLORSVILLE — A fire in Taylorsville has left six people displaced Tuesday afternoon, Unified Fire Authority says.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a location near 2700 West and Bennion Blvd. to respond to a fire at a single-family household, according to Brian Anderton, battalion chief with UFA. They encountered a full-blown fire that engulfed the entire house.

Firefighters initially entered the house because they feared two unaccounted children remained inside, said Anderton, but they were located outside the house not long after. There were also three adults in the house who all made it out safely, though they did suffer from smoke inhalation, Anderton said. One other adult who lived in the residence was not present at the time of the fire. A pet dog remains unaccounted for.

Anderton said all the house’s inhabitants will be displaced for “some time,” and the Red Cross is assisting with their situation. An estimated $125,000 in damage was done to the house.

According to Anderton, officials believe the fire began in a basement bedroom, but the investigation remains ongoing. About 50 firefighters from three agencies took part in extinguishing the fire.
