BERYL, Iron County — The reward money offered for information about the suspicious deaths of a cow and dog grew to $4,000 Wednesday.

Carcasses of the two animals were discovered by a fence crew near 3300 West and 800 South in Beryl on Feb. 10. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office announced the availability of a $1,000 reward on Feb. 20, and the Humane Society of Utah said Wednesday it is offering an additional $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killings.

“We hope that by increasing the reward, someone with information will contact officials,” HSU executive director Gene Baierschmidt said in a statement. “We would like to learn more about the circumstances surrounding this unthinkable matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Investigators believe the dog and cow were both shot. All usable meat was taken from the cow, according to the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with information about the killings can contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Office at 435-867-7500 or the tip line at 435-867-5878. Tips can also be made online at ironsheriff.net.
