SANDY — Real Salt Lake's offseason continues to take shape as the club sets to negotiate new contracts with several players amid the shadow of ownership negotiations with general manager Garth Lagerwey.

On Monday, the first subtraction from the roster hit.

RSL defender Carlos Salcedo will not return to Salt Lake City for the 2015 Major League Soccer season, the Mexican international confirmed Monday via his Twitter account. The young defender in the early stages of his international career asked the club not to pick up his option after "personal differences with the GM at the club who has, unfortunately, not kept his verbal commitments to myself or my father and has not at any point been interested in resolving our differences," he said in a statement Monday.

The 21-year-old RSL-Arizona Academy graduate appeared in 12 games for RSL in 2014, including eight starts, when he tallied one goal on four shots. The second-year RSL player burst onto the scene in 2013, making 12 starts during a run of injuries after spending a half-season with RSL's reserve team in 2012.

"My SLC experiences has been unreal and a second home for me the last two seasons," Salcedo wrote in a statement time stamped Monday at 4:48 p.m. "I have enjoyed every single second of my time at this beautiful city.

Carlos Salcedo tweets goodbye to RSL fans

"I wish everyone at RSL a good 2015 and look forward to following the organization from a distance. Goodbye."

Salcedo spent seven months at RSL's academy in Casa Grande, Arizona, after spending time with Mexican club Tigres UANL's youth program. The Mexican international figures to be a fixture with the country's Olympic team after receiving rave reviews following a call-up to the Under-21 national team camp in April.

Real Salt Lake declined to comment until each of its player options are determined Dec. 1.

Nat Borchers, Chris Wingert, Cole Grossman and Abdoulie Mansally are out of contract with the club. Players whose options are not picked up will be subject to the re-entry draft, and a team retains the right of first refusal to the player if attempts are made to re-sign him to a deal.

Lagerwey's contract is set to expire Dec. 31.
