SANDY — With Major League Soccer in a holding pattern over the option to buy standout striker Erick "El Cubo" Torres, Real Salt Lake — holders of the No. 10 pick in Wednesday's Chivas USA dispersal draft — had little chance to find a player who might make a substantial impact on its 2015 roster.

The club deemed it better to focus on its own signings and resignings.

RSL passed with the No. 10 pick in the draft, focusing instead on its own expiring contracts, including those of defenders Nat Borchers and Chris Wingert and general manager Garth Lagerwey.

Only seven players were selected in the draft, and all seven teams that picked in the first round passed through Round 2.

FC Dallas selected standout goalkeeper Dan Kennedy with the No. 1 pick in the draft. Kennedy joins a crowd between the posts alongside Peruvian National Team keeper Raul Fernandez.

Newcomer New York City FC selected 20-year-old Matthew Dunn with its first pick. The youngster in MLS circles also has European training experience, and that could prove useful for the MLS affiliate of Manchester City.

D.C. United selected 2014 rookie Tommy McNamara, who missed most of the past season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, at No. 4. Montreal took RSL's first-ever homegrown Player Donny Toia at No. 6, followed by Caleb Calvert going to Colorado at No. 8 and Kristopher Tyrpak going to San Jose at No. 9.

After Salt Lake passed, Chivas homegrown signing Marco Delgado was the only other player selected when he went to Toronto FC at No. 14.
