VATICAN CITY — President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency of the LDS Church, along with Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Bishop Gerald Causse, of the Presiding Bishopric of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sat down to share some thoughts for KSL and the Deseret News following the second day of the special International Colloquium at the Vatican.

"The gathering of all these faiths made it exciting and wonderful as a beginning," Elder Perry said.

President Eyring said the invitation to participate at the conference increased their hopes of continuing dialogue with those of other faiths.

"Those who are our friends here want to do more," President Eyring said.

He felt acceptance from many he did not know before. Catholic cardinals and representatives of other faiths came up to him very warmly as if they knew each other.

"I think the thing was, even with other faiths, they have exactly the same feeling that the root of good society is good families," said President Eyring. "And so, I think, it's not so much that they were beginning to like us personally more, I think it was they began to be excited to see how much we were committed to what they were committed to — that the world needs stronger families."

The colloquium at the Vatican was an opportunity for Latter-day Saint leaders to strengthen interfaith friendships.

"We need to keep those relationships on-going," said Bishop Causse. "We need to progress in the mutual understanding we have with other faiths on this subject."
