SALT LAKE CITY — Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham indicated Tuesday that the decision to name a starting quarterback will be made in house with no public announcement.

Speaking to media on a Pac-12 conference call, Whittingham said the coaching staff continues to evaluate film on both quarterbacks and should name a starter in the coming days.

“We’re going through all the tapes, making sure we get the proper evaluations and then we’ll have a starter that we’ll name in the next day or two,” he said. “We won’t announce that publicly, but we will know in house the next day or two what we’re going to do, what direction we’re going to go.”

Whittingham previously suggested that he would make a decision by Wednesday and release an update depth chart.

Backup quarterback Kendal Thompson entered on the fourth series of the game against UCLA Saturday and provided a spark to an offense that had three consecutive three-and-out series. Thompson went 10-of-13 for 95 yards and one touchdown. He added 83 rushing yards on 19 carries in a 30-28 win.

Travis Wilson has started in all five games this season, but was 2-of-5 for 5 yards before getting benched. Wilson has completed 57.4 percent of his passes this year, throwing for seven touchdown.
