SALT LAKE CITY — Week 1 of the NFL season started with a flurry with defending champion Seattle showcasing its dominance over rival Green Bay.

The Seahawks beat the Packers, 36-16, and former Utah State standout Bobby Wagner led the team with 14 tackles. Also, fellow Aggie alumnus Robert Turbin rushed six times for 27 yards in the win.

Utah alumnus Alex Smith recently received a contract extension from the Kansas City Chiefs, but his performance in Week 1 was a disappointment as he completed only 19-of-35 pass attempts for one touchdown. Smith also threw three interceptions in the 26-10 loss to Tennessee. Fellow Utes alumnus Sean Smith recorded four tackles for Kansas City in the loss.

Wide receiver Steve Smith found a new home in Baltimore over the offseason, and former Utah star caught seven passes for 118 yards in the 23-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Also, Minnesota running back Matt Asiata rushed for 10 yards in a 34-6 Vikings win over St. Louis.

Former Utah defensive standout Paul Kruger recorded five tackles and two sacks in Cleveland's 30-27 loss to Pittsburgh, while Carolina’s Star Lotulelei made a tackle in the Panthers’ 20-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Chargers safety Eric Weddle made four tackles in the 18-17 loss to Arizona, and Miami’s Koa Misi made two tackles for the Dolphins in a 33-20 win over New England.

BYU alumni Dennis Pitta tallied 10 catches for 83 yards in his return to the Baltimore Ravens; Pittsburgh’s Brett Keisel made two tackles in the Steelers’ win over Cleveland; and Detroit’s Ezekiel Ansah made a tackle in the Lions’ 35-17 victory over the New York Giants.
