SANTAQUIN — Two women were killed Saturday when the vehicle they were in rolled on northbound I-15 in Utah County.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m., about half a mile from the Santaquin interchange. The Pontiac Grand Am was the only vehicle involved in the accident, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas.

Witnesses told police the driver of the Grand Am was driving recklessly prior to the crash.

"It sounds like they tried to take the off-ramp and then over-corrected back onto the freeway, which is what caused them to roll," Lucas said.

Diana Manzo, 25, of Mapleton, and Sabrina Rasmussen, 20, of Springville, were thrown from the rolling vehicle. Neither was wearing a seat belt, the sergeant said.

A 17-year-old backseat passenger, who was properly restrained, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Lucas said. The boy's name was not released Saturday.

"Always wear your seat belt," Lucas cautioned. "You just never know what could happen. Whether it be in your car or somebody else's car, take the opportunity to make yourself as safe as possible on the roads."

Lucas said investigators are looking into speed as a possible cause of the accident.

Investigators remained on the scene for several hours, but all lanes of traffic were reopened by 7 p.m.
