LAYTON — An elderly woman escaped with bruises after her house was burglarized, and Layton police have arrested those they believe are responsible for the crime.

Sarah Eversten, 31, and Hunter Haynes, 30, were arrest on April 17 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Police reported that early in the morning on April 11, the victim was awakened when she heard people entering her home located on 1025 East in Layton.

Eversten and Haynes restrained the woman with duct tape and proceeded to burglarize her home, said Lt. Travis Lyman of the Layton Police department in a written statement. They took credit cards, valuables and medication.

The woman was able to break free of the tape after the individuals left her home. She ran to a neighbors house and called police.

The woman told police she had hired Eversten and Haynes a week and half earlier to clean her house and perform a few other tasks.

Lyman said the pair tried multiple times to use the victim’s credit cards after the alleged burglary and were able to withdraw an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim's bank account.

Both Evertsen and Haynes were charged in 2nd District Court Thursday with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; theft, a second-degree felony; unlawful acquisition or possession of a financial transaction card and unlawful use of a financial transaction card, third-degree felonies.

A search of court records indicates Evertsen pleaded guilty to two counts of theft in 2005. She was also charged in 2010 with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Haynes pleaded guilty in 2005 to illegal possession or use of a controlled substance.
