OREM — Police are trying to sort through a situation that occurred in Orem Sunday morning.

Provo police, Orem police and the Utah County Sheriff’s Department all received reports regarding a dispute and reports of a woman or teenage girl who was kidnapped around 7 a.m. at Nielsen's Grove Park in Orem, near 300 West and 2000 South, according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Department.

But Cannon said investigators had not been able to confirm whether the girl was actually kidnapped.

The 16-year-old girl's mother, Megan Tiscareno, said she was "very relieved."

Tiscareno's daughter said she was going to Lagoon Amusement Park with her boyfriend Saturday night, Tiscareno said.

But 10 a.m. Sunday, Tiscareno hadn't heard from her daughter.

Tiscareno said police showed up at her home and said her daughter had been kidnapped.

"I thought I was going to have a stroke or a heart attack," Tiscareno said.

Even though they had information that the girl was not in danger, detectives could not find the girl to talk to her until about 4:30 p.m. At that time, they sent out a brief tweet stating the girl had been found and was safe.

In the course of the investigation, Cannon said police discovered an individual had been assaulted west of I-15.

“He took some pretty serious lumps, but he’s at the hospital being treated,” Cannon said. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening, but Cannon confirmed the man did sustain injuries from an assault. The man’s name has not been released.

Cannon said the two incidents are related, but investigators are still unclear how and are looking for witnesses to connect the dots.

"It's kind of a crazy story," Cannon said.

Cannon said police are trying to locate all the involved parties.

Just before 8 p.m., Cannon said three individuals were in custody, and police may take more into custody as the investigation continues. Charges were still being determined at that time. The three individuals have not been identified.

"We're all really confused right now," TIscareno said. "We're trying to put the pieces together."
