CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison said Wednesday that he'll be chairing Nevada operations for Republican Sen. Marco Rubio's presidential campaign.

The two exchanged tweets about the announcement, with Rubio saying both of them coached youth football and Hutchison saying Rubio represented "a new generation of leadership."

"He's someone who lived the American Dream," Hutchison told The Associated Press, adding that he'll be working on the campaign while keeping up with his lieutenant governor duties. "I'm honored to be leading his campaign efforts here in Nevada."

Rubio is a Florida senator who is joining a crowded field of Republican presidential candidates. He spent some of his childhood in Las Vegas, and is the cousin of Democratic Nevada state Sen. Mo Denis.

Hutchison said he first met Rubio when Nevada Republican Dean Heller was running for Senate, and the two had an in-depth discussion about the campaign three or four weeks ago. Hutchison, who handily won a bid for lieutenant governor in November, said the two both have Nevada ties and came from blue-collar backgrounds.

"He's someone who can really inspire the country," Hutchison said.

Rubio is expected to visit Nevada by the end of the month, although details were not yet finalized, according to Hutchison.
