CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Activists in North Carolina who want to see a building named after a famed African-American writer have struck again.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported (http://bit.ly/2nyg8vT) a sign was placed on Carolina Hall at the University of North Carolina on Tuesday that read "Zora Neale Hurston Hall."
Hurston was a black writer who is said to have visited classes at UNC and studied with some school professors, although she was not enrolled.
UNC trustees renamed William Saunders Hall as Carolina Hall in 2015 after protests about Saunders' KKK membership. Those supporting the change had wanted trustees to name the building for Hurston.
Improvised Hurston signs occasionally appear at the hall on the Chapel Hill campus.
