SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say a 12-year-old Utah boy is dead after a collision during a snowmobiling trip.

The Desert News reports (http://bit.ly/2misyEo) the boy was riding his snowmobile when the other driver came over a ridge and failed to see him on Monday.

Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki says the child was severely injured in the collision about 70 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Stucki says the child was flown to a hospital where he died hours later. The boy from Salt Lake County had been on an outing with family and friends in the remote area.

Utah State Parks officials are investigating the Wasatch County collision. The child's name was not immediately released.
