PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A judge has acquitted a delegate to the Democratic National Convention of charges he assaulted a fellow delegate at a Philadelphia hotel.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/2fd1fgl ) reports that a Philadelphia Municipal Court judge on Thursday acquitted 74-year-old Walter Weeks, of Garnet Valley, of indecent assault.
Authorities had said the assault happened at a downtown hotel bar during the convention in the early morning hours of July 27. The accuser alleged Weeks pulled her into a big bear hug and buried his head in her chest. She said she reported the incident to police and Democratic Party officials.
The judge ruled that the testimony of two character witnesses provided on behalf of Weeks was enough to raise reasonable doubt.
Weeks' lawyer says they're "happy" with the verdict.
