LORIS, S.C. (AP) — It wasn't quite Timmy in the well, but a dog named Tuxx is credited with helping save a South Carolina teen trapped in a collapsing hole.

Local media report it took rescuers five hours Monday night to dig out 17-year-old Jarad Johnson of Loris. He was using excavation equipment on family property when he got off the machine and fell into a 10-foot hole as unstable soil caved in.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/2bUaWeS ) that Tuxx, a 2-year-old pit bull mix, sounded the alarm.

Chris Cooper says when he returned from work, Tuxx was barking and fussing at the door. Cooper let the dog out and followed him to the accident site, where he found his younger brother.

Johnson was released from the hospital Wednesday.
