FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Police are investigating after a loaded handgun was found on the lawn of a Fort Collins elementary school.
The Coloradoan reports (http://goo.gl/6Dsrjd ) a resident found the weapon outside of Beattie Elementary School on Sunday afternoon. It's unclear why it was left at the school.
Students returned to the classes Monday, and Principal David Patterson says police and school staff swept the grounds to make sure the school is safe. School resource officers and counselors are available to help parents engage in conversations about gun safety.
