SEATTLE (AP) — The DEA is working with local law enforcement agencies to collect unused, unwanted and expired prescription medicines on Saturday.
There are 89 collection sites across the state. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For help finding the "take back" locations, go to www.dea.gov and click on the "Got Drugs?" icon, or call 800-882-9539.
Authorities are asking people to only bring pills and other solids, like patches, and find another way to dispose of liquids, needles or other sharp objects.
Drug take-back days are designed to keep unused prescriptions out of the hands of drug abusers. The DEA and local law enforcement agencies have collected and destroyed millions of pounds of unused prescription drugs across the nation during the past five years.
