SAN DIEGO (AP) — Three people were killed in a rollover crash in northern San Diego County while they were on their way to a funeral service in Mexico, authorities said.

The driver Jerson Duron, 25, his wife Edith Duron, 22, both of South El Monte, California and Ivette Garcia, 21, of Los Angeles were killed in Friday's crash in Bonsall, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office said Saturday.

A sheriff's deputy driving behind the Ford Explorer saw the tire tread come off a rear wheel, causing the SUV to spin out of control and roll onto the northbound lanes of Interstate 15.

Six people were inside the vehicle. California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said the Durons' 2-year-old daughter was taken to a hospital as a precaution but was not injured because she had been properly secured in a car seat.

Two other passengers, the girl's 43-year-old grandmother and another 21-year-old man, suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Bettencourt said the group was traveling to Mexico to attend a memorial service for the father of one of the crash's survivors.
