STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — The mayor of Stillwater has been diagnosed breast cancer after filming a public service announcement promoting a hospital's new 3-D mammography technology.

The Stillwater News Press (http://bit.ly/2axRLbE ) reports that Mayor Gina Noble and Stillwater Medical Center staff held a news conference Wednesday to discuss her diagnosis.

She said the diagnosis was daunting news, but said she will be OK because of early detection.

"Life takes turns, and mine has taken a turn. Some day I won't be here, but it's not because of breast cancer," Noble said.

Noble is a board member for the medical center because of her mayoral duties. She said she was asked to shoot the public service announcement after hearing about the new technology during a board meeting.

"And they said, 'Would you mind, as mayor, as a woman, would it be OK if you did a mammography and let us follow you?' I said 'Absolutely, that's a great public service.' I scheduled it for that week, went in and Dava (Judd) gave me my mammography, which was very simple. I found out the news within 24 hours."

Medical center CEO Denise Webber thanked Noble for wanting to promote the importance of early detection following this sudden development in her life. Webber said the procedure shows the importance in technological advances.

"She wanted to share this with women in this area and in Oklahoma to make a difference," Webber said.
