Author's Note: Each week, KSL brings you the stories of children living in foster care right here in our own communities. These kids need our help, and the opportunity to find a permanent home.SALT LAKE CITY — Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City is home to the Bees, but on Wednesday it was all about Wednesday's Child, Orlando.

The 13-year-old loves watching baseball almost as much as he enjoys playing.

"Just the offense, the defense and feel of it," Orlando said. "You just keep going."

The Bees invited him to join the rest of the team during their warm-ups. He played catch with the players and even got a few tips to improve his game. A strong arm can come in pretty handy in baseball, but in life he's learned to develop an even deeper strength within.

Orlando entered the foster care system a few years ago.

"It was just like really hard when we left my mom's house," he said. "I really loved her, but then I don't know if she loved me back."

He's trying hard to get good grades in school and especially enjoys English and history.

Like in baseball, Orlando's goal is to make it home — home to the permanent and loving family he deserves.

"Because I would actually have that support and love that I could get," he said. Until that day comes, he's going to keep focusing on making himself the best he can be.
