WEST VALLEY CITY — A man walking in a group was shot in the stomach early Saturday near Granger High School.
A West Valley police officer was patrolling an area near the school, 3580 S. 3600 West, just after midnight when he noticed four people walking along 3600 West.
"He watched as a silver car pulled up alongside the group and looked to be talking to them. About that time, the officer drove past the group and he heard shots fired from the car," said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.
The officer turned around and chased after the vehicle, but lost sight of it in a nearby neighborhood.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the stomach and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Vainuku said. She said his injuries, however, were not considered to be life-threatening.
Police were investigating to determine if the shooting is gang-related, she said.
The name of the victim was not released. Police were looking for a late model, silver sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala or a Monte Carlo, with black rims and a fin on the back. Four men were believed to be inside the vehicle at the time.
