WEST VALLEY CITY — Three people were injured in two unrelated accidents in West Valley City Friday, police said.
A girl was in serious condition after trying to cross the street against a red light and being hit by a car Friday morning, according to Lt. Dalan Taylor of the West Valley City Police Department.
The girl was with two other girls near 3900 S. 1300 West at around 8 a.m. when they tried to cross the street while the light was red, Taylor said. The girls were all between the ages of 14 and 15-years-old.
"They attempted to cross from the north side of 3900 South to the south side and decided to try and dodge traffic and cross against the red," he said. "One of them was struck by a westbound vehicle."
The car stopped after it hit the girl and came to rest on her hand, but her hand was not broken, police said. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition.

The girl has a fractured eye socket and broken nose, police said. She also has some road rash.
Police received reports of another collision that sent two people to the hospital at around 12:25 p.m. The accident occurred at 1200 W. 3300 South.
From the preliminary investigation, Taylor said it appears a man on a motorcycle was heading westbound and turning left onto 1200 West when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on 3300 South. Investigators have not yet determined who had the right of way.
"The impact actually knocked (the motorcyclist) into a car that was stopped at the light northbound on 1200 West," Taylor said. "He hit the side of that car and ended up going under that vehicle."
The man on the motorcycle was not wearing his helmet, which police found stored in his saddlebag. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of a head injury and multiple broken bones, Taylor said.
The driver of the car, a woman, was also taken to the hospital for a gouge in her head she received upon impact.
Taylor warned that as the weather warms up, drivers need to be especially conscious of motorcyclist.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
