SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspected serial bank robber who attempted to rob one bank and successfully robbed two more banks Friday, bringing the total to five banks robbed and one attempted robbery.

The Unified Police Department asked for public assistance on two other occasions, but they have "not received any tips as to the suspect's identity," Lt. Justin Hoyal said in a written statement.

Hoyal said the alleged robber is described as a 5-foot-7-inch Hispanic or Caucasian male with a medium build who is 20 to 30 years old. Police believe that he has some facial hair, but he has also used a fake beard and mustache. He also wears a hat or knit cap during the robberies.

"In each of the cases the suspect entered the bank and presented a note to the teller indicating it was a robbery and demanded money," Hoyal said. "He has fled each financial institution on foot. No vehicles have been seen following any of the robberies."

Hoyal said that during the attempted robbery Friday, the man went into a U.S. Bank where he was told that a teller would be with him shortly. Instead of waiting, he fled on foot.

About half hour after that attempt, the man allegedly robbed a Zions Bank, and an hour after that he robbed a First Utah Bank.

The robberies took place on the following dates and times:

  • Jan. 10, 2014; First Utah Bank, 7070 S. State Street, Midvale; 4:42 p.m.
  • Jan. 10, 2014; Zions Bank, 159 W. Center Street, Midvale; 3:46 p.m.
  • Jan. 10, 2014; US Bank, 8100 S. State Street, Midvale; 3:12 p.m. attempted
  • Dec. 23, 2013; US Bank, 8100 S. State Street, Midvale; 1:40 p.m.
  • Dec. 20, 2013; America First Credit Union, 5219 South 4105 West, Taylorsville; 4:16 p.m.
  • Dec. 6, 2013; Zions Bank, 159 W. Center Street, Midvale; 11:33 a.m.

"We are releasing new suspect photos from the robberies and attempted robbery today in hopes that members of the public will know who the suspect is, or saw him as he was fleeing the areas," Hoyal said Friday.

The suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man or has information about the robberies are asked to contact the UPD at 385-468-9814.
