MAGNA — A man was taken into custody after what police are calling an aggravated domestic assault.

West Jordan Police Department Officer Craig Carroll said police received the report of a domestic disturbance when a 30-year-old man allegedly choked his girlfriend in front of her children in her South Jordan home.

Carroll said detectives tracked the man to Magna and a "very short" car chase took place. The chase ended when the man drove onto a dead-end street, and he was then arrested without further incident, according to Carroll.

The alleged suspect has not been publicly identified or charged by police because detectives have not yet interviewed the man.

Carroll said that based on the outcome of the interview, the alleged suspect may be booked into jail with "whatever charges the detectives deem appropriate."

Several agencies were involved in the incident, including the West Jordan Police Department, Unified Police Department and West Valley Police Department.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
