SOUTH JORDAN — A man recently convicted and awaiting sentencing for lewdness, is also being investigated for allegedly showing pornographic movies to young girls.

Michael Charles Gainer, 35, of South Jordan, was found guilty on Oct. 1 of burglary, a third-degree felony, and lewdness, a class B misdemeanor. According to charging documents, Gainer walked uninvited into a Salt Lake County home on July 2 looking for the victim's mother. He was found sitting on the 17-year-old daughter's bed with no pants on and holding a syringe, according to court records.

He is scheduled to be sentenced for that case on Nov. 14.

In an unrelated case, Gainer is believed to have shown two 7-year-old girls pornographic movies in his garage, 4365 W. Deverson Circle (10075 South), between Oct. 1 and Nov. 9, 2012, according to a new search warrant affidavit filed in 3rd District Court.

One of the girls told authorities that Gainer "took the children into the garage area and would not allow them to leave until after they viewed a pornographic video on a computer," the affidavit states.

Gainer made the two girls their "favorite snacks," and then told them they couldn't have that snack again if they told anybody what had happened, according to the warrant.

No criminal charges have been filed in that case. On Monday, South Jordan police confirmed they are involved in a "very active investigation" concerning Gainer, but declined to release more details pending the results of their investigation.

In 2009, Gainer was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and rape of a child, all first-degree felonies. He was also charged with two counts of illegally supplying alcohol to minors, a class A misdemeanor. The charges were eventually dismissed by the state, according to court records.

In October of 2012, Gainer was found guilty of assault, a class A misdemeanor. According to court records, Gainer, while wearing a head lamp, attacked a woman he had just met that morning while camping at Rockport Reservoir. He was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on probation. A warrant was issued in July for a probation violation. His next scheduled court appearance for the violation was set for Oct. 28.

In 2003, Gainer was found guilty of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. He was sentenced to up to five years at the Utah State Prison. That sentence ran concurrent with another conviction in 2003 for attempted operation of a drug lab, a third-degree felony.
