SALT LAKE CITY — Some drivers along 3300 South may have done a double-take this weekend as crews began repaving the road, which was repaved just last summer.
3300 South between State Street and Redwood Road was repaved in July.
UDOT's Adan Carrillo said the contractor had the wrong mix. It didn't meet UDOT's friction standards, so crews had to wait until the temperatures cooled down to try again.
Now they are repaving from State Street to 700 West.
"We don't want to have to come out next spring and inconvenience our customers out there again," Carillo said.
"Everything else has met our standards," Carillo said. "It is in the best interest of UDOT to make sure we get a quality product, and it's in the best interest of our contractor to make sure they do it right, as quickly as possible."
He said taxpayers won't pay twice for the pavement. The contractor is repaving at no extra cost.
Carillo said crews will finish paving Monday night, and then in 10 days will put markings back on the road.
A similar thing happened recently in Ogden Canyon. A mistake in the asphalt formula means UDOT will need to repave there next summer.
