OGDEN — Democrat Peter Clemens, an Ogden doctor, will announce Friday he's challenging GOP Rep. Rob Bishop in Utah's 1st Congressional District.

Clemens has already raised more than $29,000 toward defeating the six-term congressman in the 2014 election, according to his campaign's most recent filing with the Federal Elections Commission.

"It's time that Utahns have representatives in Congress that want to make government work instead of shutting it down," Clemens said. "Congressmen from the incumbent's party just say 'no' to any proposal to move our state and country forward."

Clemens is scheduled to formally announce his candidacy at a meet and greet event Friday evening at the home of Jack and Bonnie Wahlen in Ogden.
