SALT LAKE CITY — Primary Children's Medical Center will soon be known by its original name — Primary Children's Hospital.
The name change will take effect Oct. 1. The building was referred to as Primary Children’s Hospital between 1934 and 1974. It became Primary Children’s Medical Center in 1974 to reflect its expanding geographical reach.
According to a news release from the hospital, research showed there was confusion about whether Primary Children’s is a hospital that only treats children. The new name and logo will help improve the visibility of the word “children.”
Hospital officials also said the change will help facilitate Web searches for its services. The term “children’s hospital” is searched online more than 18 million times each year. In comparison, “children’s medical center” is searched just 1.3 million times each year.
