PROVO — Ryan Innes has soul. And he's sharing it with America on NBC's "The Voice."
Another impressive talent out of Provo, Innes describes his sound as a mix of Marc Broussard, Gavin DeGraw, John Legend, Allen Stone, and James Morrison — but the casual listener may just wish they knew the words so they could belt alongside his buttery voice.
Innes will appear on one of the blind audition episodes of "The Voice," but the airdate is unknown. The second part of blind auditions airs Tuesday at 7 p.m. on NBC.
Innes has become a favorite among locals after performances at the Rooftop Concert Series, the Stadium of Fire talent show and, most recently, the SCERA in Orem. The Feb. 9 7 p.m. show quickly sold out, causing the theater to add a second show at 9 p.m. that evening.
Before music was at the forefront of his life, Innes was on track to become a pediatrician. He graduated from Eastern Arizona College with an associate's degree in pre-medical science. But after he and his fiancee broke off their engagement, his focus shifted to music, according to the Deseret News.
He attended BYU, where he studied songwriting and contemporary voice, and sang in the a cappella group Vocal Point.
