SALT LAKE CITY — Hundreds of people spread the love on Valentine's Day by calling in to the 37th annual KSL NewsRadio Radiothon to donate money to patients at Primary Children's Medical Center. Callers were able to donate money to the fund for a few hours and raised over $486,558.
Several of the patients have severe or rare conditions that leave them hospitalized for a long period of time. Ethan Bruns, 8, suffers from a rare disease that shut down his kidney function. Bruns has been receiving dialysis and specialized medications to help clear his blood of toxins.
"The medication is $12,000 a dose, and right now they have him on it every two weeks," said Ryan Bruns, Ethan's father.
Bruns is one of many patients and families dealing with huge medical expenses. He has been in the hospital for over a month.
The KSL NewsRadio Radiothon finished at 6:20 p.m. on Feb. 14. All the money raised was donated to patients and their families.
