SALT LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a man who they believe broke into a Salt Lake City home and threatened a woman with a knife.

The man apparently entered the woman's home near 700 South and 900 West around 2:30 p.m. through a window, Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan said. He was immediately confronted by the woman who owns the home.

The pair began to struggle immediately and the man picked up a knife in the home. The woman screamed and made a "commotion," prompting the man to flee, McGowan said.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 801-799-3000.

The woman sustained some minor bruising to her face, but did not require hospitalization.

McGowan said the incident appears to have been random and there have been no reports of similar activity in that area.

The suspect was described as a Native American male between 45 and 50 years old who is around 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds. He reportedly had long braided hair and was wearing a black jacket.
