SUNDERLAND, England (AP) — Sunderland moved out of the relegation zone Saturday after scoring two late goals to beat 10-man Stoke 2-0 in the Premier League.
Ryan Shawcross was sent off in the 47th minute for a second yellow card and the Black Cats finally took advantage through Patrick van Aanholt's 25-yard shot in the 82nd.
Two minutes later, Duncan Watmore added a second. He broke free down the right and drilled a low shot inside the far post.
Sunderland secured its first back-to-back victories of the season, signaling that new manager Sam Allardyce is making progress in turning things around.
Midtable Stoke has 19 points from 14 matches.
