FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center are joining forces to open a medical school in Fort Worth, the biggest Texas city without such a school.
Officials for the two universities announced the collaboration in Fort Worth on Monday. TCU has pledged $50 million toward the project, while the UNT Health Science Center has rounded up about $25 million in private pledges.
The "memorandum of understanding" between the two calls for an initial class of 60 students in 2018 with a planned full enrollment of 240. The school will use existing facilities and faculties of the two Fort Worth schools to minimize startup costs.
The UNT Health Science Center already has an osteopathic medical school and graduate programs for other health professionals in Fort Worth.
