SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Education officials say Utah's new computer-based K-12 test shows fewer students are meeting grade-level standards compared with results from a previous exam.
Officials discussed preliminary results from the SAGE test administered this spring during a State Office of Education meeting Monday.
The new test aligns with Common Core academic standards that Utah adopted in 2010.
Associated State Superintendent Judy Park says SAGE test standards are higher so lower student ability was expected.
For example, the results show the percentage of Utah students meeting or exceeding math standards in a particular grade ranged from 29 to 47 percent.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the percentage of students rated proficient in math under the old system ranged from 39 to 85 percent.
Individual student and school results will be released this fall.
