Why Ancestral Quest?
Ancestral Quest is a wonderful, easy-to-use, full featured family tree program for anybody!
For LDS users, AQ is obviously the best choice. Why?
a) Over 10 years ago, the LDS church licensed AQ, and with some changes, made their Windows versions of PAF from the AQ code. Most LDS users are using PAF 5.2, which is essentially a somewhat altered, older version of AQ. For a user of PAF, AQ will feel like a major upgrade, rather than like a different program. Users of PAF are already familiar with most features of AQ. AQ simply has a lot of new and improved features, but is otherwise very much like PAF.
b) AQ now works with New FamilySearch. It was the first family tree product to be certified for syncing with new FamilySearch, as is the only full-featured family tree product certified by FamilySearch to sync a PAF database with NFS. AQ is certified by FamilySearch for more capabilities than any other software (see http://www.familysearch.org/eng/affiliates/index.html to verify this claim).
c) PAF has not been updated in over 7 years, and church representatives have stated that they have no current plans to update it. PAF users are wondering how to move to New FamilySearch with their training in PAF. AQ is the answer, as it is essentially the same program, but is updated to work with New FamilySearch, and will use the same data, so these users can continue to use PAF if they wish.
