Based on the feedback we have received from our users we have made some changes to our comment boards:

  1. Changed voting tags to include:
    • Agree: a comment compatible or consistent with your opinion
    • Funny: an appropriate comment that you find humorous
    • Insightful: a comment that provides additional information or in-depth analysis of the news story
    • Disagree: a comment with an opinion or viewpoint different than your own
    • Unsubstantiated: a comment that does not have the evidence to support the claim
    • Huh?: a comment that makes no sense, is badly misspelled, or uses bad grammar to the point that it cannot be understood
    • Inappropriate: a comment that is vulgar or rude or contains personal attacks, racist remarks or hateful speech
    • Report Abuse - report this comment to the ksl.com moderators for removal
  2. Users can now access their own user profile. Once logged into ksl.com, click your username located near the top right corner of the website underneath the "classifieds" link.
  3. Users can expand a new users comment by clicking on the triangle next to the username or by clicking on the blue box below the new users comment.
  4. A new users comment must be expanded in order for another user to vote on it (if you cannot vote on a comment, either you are not logged in or the comment has not been expanded/opened)
  5. Comment Board Leader Stats - users can now see a summary of the previous 24 hour comment board activity, this includes:
    1. 10 most active commenters
    2. 10 most active voters
    3. Total comments
    4. Total votes
    5. Total comments removed by the ksl.com moderators
    6. How many votes each voting tag has received.

We are still working on two features that should be done by the end of this week, they include:

  1. A button at the top of every comment board that will automatically expand all comments from new users. You will still need to open every comment that has been "cast into the void".
  2. A report voting abuse button. This will allow the user who posted a comment the ability to request a ksl.com moderator to review the votes on their comment for voting abuse. If you feel that someone is unfairly and constantly voting your comments as inappropriate, our moderators will review the voting histories on your comments. If abuse is discovered then that particular user will no longer be able to vote your comments as inappropriate, however they will be able to report your comment as abuse.

Let us know if you have any other ideas that will improve our comment board system.
