Position Summary: Plan, coordinate, schedule, and manage plant maintenance functions including design, purchase, and evaluation of equipment and facility systems to efficiently meet production requirements and schedules at all company facilities. Maximize production throughout by minimizing equipment downtime and maximizing equipment effectiveness. Supervise the operation of the Maintenance department to maintain machinery and equipment in good repair, to include mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Supervise the cleaning and inspection, and replacement of components according to the Preventative Maintenance Program. Maintain electrical, gas, water, refrigeration, compressed air and other supply utility systems at all facilities. Install new machinery or equipment. Assist Production department in startup of production lines.
Essential Job Functions: 1. Oversee scheduling and safe performance of maintenance activities including equipment installation, preventative maintenance procedures and assigning individual mechanics to specific duties. 2. Provide assistance and training for each department member on technical issues as needed or required, using in-house capability or outside resources when needed. 3. Maintain installation ready back-up Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and modify programs to ensure maximum reliability of computer controlled equipment to adjust to production demands. 4. Ensure compliance with all Government agency reporting requirements including hazardous materials, storm water run off pressure vessels, and air pollution control. 5. Maintain up to date series of drawings and plans relating to facility site, structures and infrastructure. 6. Read, understand and produce working mechanical and electrical drawings and system diagrams. 7. Develop and maintain extensive operating knowledge of computer, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic steam, refrigeration, and plumbing systems, including factors necessary for their safe operation. 8. Hold certification to perform all types of maintenance on refrigeration equipment and systems if required by State or local regulation. 9. Supervise engineering effort to develop, upgrade, test, install and start up new and/or revised equipment to meet production standards. 10. Maintain inventory levels of spare parts and adjust part inventory level to support production demands and control costs. 11. Manage projects relating to facility expansion, construction, and major repair, to include planning, design, permitting, code compliance, contractor selection, schedule and budget projections and tracking, documentation, contractor relations, and governmental agency compliance issues. 12. Develop annual department budget and control department expenditures within budgetary limits. 13. Trained and aware of SQF requirement including but not limited to the reporting of all food safety, quality and defense issues. 14. Other projects or tasks as assigned by management.
Essential Job Requirements: Education: 4 year degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience/training. Experience: At least 5 years experience in maintenance management at a supervisor level or higher. Travel: May require some minimal travel Required Skills: 1. Maintenance: Able to lead troubleshooting and repair of all plant systems including, but not limited to: a. Electrical b. Pneumatic c. Water and Sewer d. Steam e. Refrigeration f. Processing Equipment g. Packaging Equipment h. Sanitation Equipment i. Maintenance Equipment j. Load Handling Equipment 2. Computer: a. CMMS: create and update progress on Preventative Maintenance Work Orders b. Microsoft Office: Proficient in Word and Excel. 3. Accounting: a. Read and understand a budget. b. Report on budgetary compliance 4. Purchasing: a. Create purchase orders for parts and/or services. 5. Leadership: a. Provide stable direction in high stress situations b. Maintain morale of Maintenance team. c. Ability and willingness to work as a Team with the Plant and Management Staff 6. Decision Making: a. Process available information to make critical decisions 7. Communication: a. Able to effectively and appropriately communicate with team members, other departments and management. Physical Requirements: 1. Ability to lift 50+ pounds 2. Ability to work in a confined environment 3. Ability to work in a varied climate (hot and cold)
