Provo City, Utah (pop. 125,000) is seeking a dedicated and recognized leader in law enforcement; a person with a demonstrated track record of innovation and creativity; an individual with proven leadership, executive management, and administrative skills; a leader who believes in community oriented policing and possesses the managerial skills needed to implement an effective community-based policing program. The Chief oversees all activities and operations of the Police Department and reports directly to the Mayor. The Chief must be an effective communicator with all of the position=s stakeholders, and have proven ability to both establish and clearly communicate the short and long term goals of the department. The successful applicant will have a strong background in developing mutually respectful relationships, achieving consensus among competing interests and groups, and fostering a collaborative approach to problem solving. The Chief must display the highest level of integrity in both personal and professional settings; a person who is approachable and able to foster a culture of transparency, trust, and accountability between the department and the public. The Chief will exercise his/her duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness - and will demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Public Administration, or a related field; and seven (7) years of command level experience in a police agency in a comparably sized community; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Must possess a valid, lawful driver's license. Must pass a background check, psychological evaluation, polygraph exam, and a post-offer drug screen. Must possess Law Enforcement Officer certification from POST (Utah State Peace Officer Standards and Training), within 90 days of employment. Utah law provides that the Basic Training requirements of certification may be waived if the applicant has successfully completed a comparable Peace Officer Basic Training Program. Waiver applicants will be required to furnish POST with a copy of their basic training curriculum and proof of successful completion.
