Under the supervision of the Network and Technical Services Manager, the Network Technician II: LAN/WAN has general responsibility for Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), and Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) services in Jordan School District. Responsible for network monitoring, traffic/event analysis, device configuration and troubleshooting network performance to optimize the district???s data/video/voice network. Participates in aspects of planning and implementing network projects throughout the district including installation of new or upgraded equipment or software, identifying and replacing faulty equipment and resolving hardware and software problems possibly related to network connectivity. Provides end-user and Help Desk support for network related questions and assists and trains other network personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ??? Primarily focuses on network Problem/Configuration/Change Management to minimize network downtime. ??? Monitors, analyzes, installs and configures components of the district WAN, LAN, and WLAN infrastructure. ??? Identifies network problems (WAN, LAN, WLAN) and performs configuration changes, software updates, or equipment repair/replacement to restore/improve service. ??? Participates in and directs projects to install, upgrade, or replace network components. ??? Implements troubleshooting techniques, evaluates available testing tools and testing procedures to isolate network problems in order to improve network performance or restore service. ??? Maintains, updates and organizes product and procedural documentation and inventory. ??? Understands advanced networking principles, practices, and protocols e.g., OSI layer 2 and layer 3 operations, 802.11(wireless network), AAA security principles, and cybersecurity operations. ??? Monitors, analyzes, and configures the shared communications technologies (data/voice/video) that are carried on the district Network. ??? Effectively use network analysis tools (e.g., sniffers, analyzers, wireless tools) in troubleshooting activities. ??? Facilitate problem resolution using technical documentation and specifications. ??? Communicate (written and oral) effectively and document problem resolution actions. Ability to communicate with end-users, administrators, carriers and partners in a timely fashion. ??? Reviews and recommends proposed networking solutions including hardware, software, and applications and participates in planning and decision making activities. ??? Responds to the user support team in accomplishing their assigned responsibilities and maintains professional competence by reviewing appropriate literature and participating in appropriate organizations. ??? Requires periodic late night or weekend work to meet work priorities. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ??? Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ??? Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check. Machines, Tools & Equipment Used: o Standard office equipment and machines. o Computer hardware and software and related equipment. o Network components consisting of end-user, mid-span, edge, and core devices. o WAN, LAN and WLAN tools, technologies and analyzers. Physical Requirements ??? Not limited to the following: o Must periodically lift and move computer hardware up to 50 pounds. o Occasional danger from high voltage electrical units o Ability to drive between district locations o Dexterity and physical strength to handle equipment and tools in order to mount devices in equipment racks. o While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, type and feel and must reach with hands and arms.

Minimum Job Qualifications: o Requires High School diploma, GED or equivalent as reviewed by the Department of Human Resources. Verification may be required. o Requires an Associate???s Degree in Information Technology, Networking, Electronics or related field; or a corresponding number of years of directly related work experience in network LAN/WAN. o Requires four (4) years job related work experience with demonstrated competence. o Experience in K-12 school setting preferred. o Requires experience in Windows and Macintosh environments o Requires experience with network assets (e.g., switches, routers, security devices, and wireless access points). o Requires experience with VOIP technologies, LAN/WAN/WLAN devices, Video Technologies, and Network Security. o Requires a valid Utah driver license. o Requires technical knowledge of industry-standard network technologies. o Understanding of the principles of computer and network security. o Requires the ability to work independently through highly complex technical troubleshooting processes. o Requires effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with others to support the concept of teamwork and customer service. o Ability to communicate with vendors and carriers to perform troubleshooting, repair and installs. o Ability to analyze, identify and understand network related problems and weaknesses. o Ability to make proper work decisions to effectively address multiple priorities at one time. o Ability to differentiate between unusual software and hardware problems to improve network performance. o Ability to work well with frequent interruptions.
