    Job Description

    Non-Profit Director Latinos in Action (Salt Lake City) Job Posting Position: Full-time Non-Profit Director: Latinos in Action. Salary: $39,000 Benefits: Medical is negotiable within salary, relocation expenses, 2 weeks vacation, 2 weeks of sick leave, 10 paid holidays, and flexible hours. The Program Latinos in Action, LIA, is a registered 501 (c) (3) mentor program implemented in high schools and middle schools with the aim of students graduating college. The program consists of a school class in which the youth are taught to be para-educators (teaching reading and math to elementary school children) and for the remaining academic year, the program participants are bussed to an elementary school where they are assigned to struggling youth for that class period. In addition to mentoring elementary youth, the LIA curriculum focuses on the students' cognitive, social and linguistic domains and includes college-prep and leadership components. This includes training in study skills (including improving literacy and numeracy), ACT prep, college admissions applications, financial literacy, financial aid and scholarships, literacy, career exploration, and professionalism/business etiquette. Self esteem is addressed through Latin dance and similar activities that give students self-identity and motivation necessary to envision themselves as college graduates. They are also required to be involved in other extracurricular activities of their choice and are encouraged to participate in community service projects. Currently, 98% of LIA participants graduate from high school and 80% continue to college. Growth LIA is experiencing phenomenal growth, from 8 high schools in 2008, to 39 in 2010, to 58 schools in the 2011-2012 school year and now over 100 for the fall of 2013. LIA is expanding into other states and increasing their involvement on college campuses to support students. We expect 110+ schools to be served by the beginning of the 2013 school year and LIA will expand every year. Director LIA is seeking a director who can create and manage the growth of the organization and program. We need a greatly expanded organizational framework while also seeking sustainable funding sources for LIA's current and future needs. The successful candidate will be: Organized Charismatic Team-oriented Passionate Creative The successful candidate will have both knowledge of and demonstrated success in: Managing daily tasks of a non-profit Staff development and leadership training Volunteer recruitment and development Strategic planning Program development In addition, relevant legal knowledge is also a plus. Major areas of responsibility include: 1. Management of Latinos in Action: Actively engage in the administration of LIA staff and its epicenter. Develop and implement organizational structure and facilitate the expansion of LIA; as well as be able to charismatically connect and expose Latino youth to the world. 2. Funds Development: The Director's position will center around building current efforts to grow financial support through annual giving, sponsorships, and fundraising events. Additionally, the Director is expected to lead efforts to look at diversified and sustainable funding sources including earned revenue potential. 3. Maintain fiscal accountability: Understand accounting principles, oversee the use of resources, and adhere to revenue and expense budgets. Work with the staff to ensure that activities are within allocated budget guidelines; ensuring that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work. 5. Represent Latinos in Action: Work diligently to publicize the organization through increased visibility, funding, and community engagement, allowing the organization to expand the social services based on the needs of the community. 6. Enthusiasm: The Director must have a passion for the further development of Latino Youth, and the development of a more sustainable Latinos in Action. Requirements Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a minimum of 3 years experience OR a Masters degree with 1 year experience in non-profit management Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Working knowledge and experience implementing budgets Willingness to stay with LIA for at least three years and hopefully five years or more??
