Essential Duties: This is administration, planning, and management of the operations and employees of Vehicle Maintenance Services. The individual appointed to this position will perform the following duties: oversee and direct the activities, programs, and employees of Vehicle Maintenance Services, including ensuring efficient operation and productivity to provide the highest level of customer service to user departments; develop and manage various fleet programs, including preventative maintenance, recall compliance, and fuel card management; oversee and maintain a computerized fleet management and inventory control system; ensure all vehicles and equipment are inspected, registered, and licensed in accordance with applicable local, State, and Federal regulations; make staffing decisions, conduct performance evaluations and enact discipline and/or employee recognition as needed; supervise record maintenance and review all reports, logs, work records, and documentation of subordinates; develop and manage safety programs for assigned personnel, including the coordination of all applicable risk management issues; develop and manage the Vehicle Maintenance Services budget; propose and approve specifications for all contracts and equipment purchases; manage and oversee surplus equipment transfers and the disposal of City owned vehicles and equipment; ensure overall shop compliance with applicable ordinances and local, State, and Federal regulations; and perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: Three (3) years of administrative experience in fleet maintenance operations or a related field, including automated shop and inventory operations; and two (2) years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, automotive, or light truck mechanic; OR an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience [substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience]. New hire probationary period is one (1) year. License(s): A valid, lawful driver???s license is required. Applicant may be disqualified for consideration on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Selection Factors: Knowledge of modern methods and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of all types and sizes of vehicles, construction equipment, engines, and components; computerized fleet information systems including inventory operations; bidding processes and preparing contract specifications; budget preparation and administration processes; and effective supervisory methods and techniques. Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs; read and interpret drawings and sketches of mechanical and electrical systems and repair manuals; and supervise others in mechanical repair.
