Job Title: Assistant General Counsel Location: Salt Lake City, UT This is a full time, direct hire, salaried (45-50 hours per week) position, with a competitive compensation package, including Employee Benefits: Medical, Vision, and Dental; Company provided life and short term disability; 401K plan; Paid time off; and Paid holidays. Company Profile: Federated Capital Corporation (FCC), a diversified financial services firm with headquarters in Metro Detroit is seeking a well-qualified Assistant General Counsel with the education, experience, legal skills, poise, professionalism and confidence necessary to succeed for a legal collections office in Salt Lake City, UT. Job Summary: The Assistant General Counsel MUST be an attorney licensed to practice in the state of Utah; with experience in civil litigation, preferably collections law. The main duty will be the preparation and filing of court documents required to initiate suit against recalcitrant debtors thru the Salt Lake City courts. The goal of our company is to quickly recover these 1st party commercial debts while minimizing cost through effective practices and procedures. Duties: ??? Establish relationships with local Courts and Outside Counsel ??? Ensure acceptance of a high volume of filings and cases ??? Prepare for, manage documentation of, and appear in court, in support of lawsuits when appropriate ??? Oversee preparation of summons, complaints and other documentation necessary to support legal action ??? Assist in securing national Process Servers in order to ensure proper service of underlying cases ??? Assist in selecting Attorneys in debtors??? state of residence to domesticate Utah judgments ??? Respond to Attorney requests, inquiries, and pleadings to support the collection process and legal action ??? Supervise and manage support staff; assist with employee selection, development and periodic training ??? Ensure Employee compliance with the Company???s established policies and procedures ??? Prepare periodic updates and monthly reports to document status and progress ??? Ensure strict compliance with relevant state and federal laws governing debt collection; manage response to and compliance with state and federal regulatory inquiries ??? Work adjunct to Michigan legal department ??? Other related duties and tasks related to projects and the position as necessary

Skills; Qualifications; Education Requirements: ??? Comfortable with and capable of working independently (with a small support staff) ??? Able to initiate and file a high volume of cases or lawsuits in Utah (about 60 to 150 per month) ??? Able to identify, develop and implement appropriate systems, processes and procedures ??? Assist Human Resources in hiring support staff ??? Manage support staff ??? Manage document production and case flow ??? Juris Doctorate from accredited school + 2 years of commercial/consumer civil litigation experience ??? MUST be licensed to practice in Utah; prefer multiple state licensing ??? Minimum of 6 months practicing in Utah; preferably 2+ years experience with a law firm specializing in collections
