A manufacturing facility in Salt Lake has an immediate opening for a Machine Shop Manager. THIS POSITION WILL ROTATE SHIFTS ON A MONTHLY BASIS. This position is responsible for supervising the employees working in the Machine Shop area during their assigned shift; including compliance with all security, safety, quality, quantity and housekeeping standards (5S program). Essential Functions: Supervises employees in the Machine Shop: Ensures that all expectations set by the Machine Shop Operations Manager are followed by all employees on their assigned shift in the Machine Shop . This will comprise about twenty employees. Provides on-the-job training, monitors performance and helps manager give timely performance appraisals. Resolves conflicts and provides corrective counseling as needed. Coaches, motivates and communicates with employees to accomplish department goals. Approves vacation, personal leave and sick day requests for all employees working during their assigned shift. Ensures efficient production flow: Supports the production schedule through effective utilization of resources. Tracks and reviews shift production yields. Ensures compliance with requirements. Recommends and implements process and productivity improvements. Helps in the maintenance and repair of equipment (jig repair, program updates, re-tooling, etc.). Monitors individual efficiencies, coaches and re-trains when necessary. Promptly writes up Maintenance Requests and red tags machines when necessary. Process Control: Ensures that all Work Sequence and Operations Manuals are utilized as required by the Hoyt Management System. Monitors tool heights, machine offsets, program performance and tool breakage during their assigned shift. Adjusts as required. Helps and monitors Cell Captains to ensure all set-ups are done promptly and efficient. Ensures that operators follow PM sheets. Monitors scrap and tags and quarantines as needed. Member of the Material Review Board. Ensures calibrations are up to date on all equipment used in the shop. Supports organizational initiatives: As a leader of the company, is responsible for proactively establishing and/or reinforcing procedures and improvement efforts related to quality, customer satisfaction, employee morale, inventory accuracy, cost containment and performance to budget. Maintains open lines of communication, sharing relevant information with superiors, peers, and subordinates. Willing to rotate shifts on a monthly basis.

Training and Education: Associates Degree in Manufacturing Technology preferred. 1 to 3 years CAD CAM Programming required. 1 to 3 years Supervisory experience required. 5+ years??? experience as a Machinist required. Basic computer skills in Word, Excel required and M2K experience preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Basic shop math and trigonometry skills required. Ability read blue prints and repair fixtures required. Knowledge of ISO System requirements required. Knowledge of cutting tools and applications required.
